This idea came from a customer’s need of transporting her wheelchair, but wanted something more stable than a tray on a hitch with bungees. We started with the Yakima Hold-up 1.25″ hitch mounted bike carrier.
We modified this by flipping the rear bike tray so that the 2 trays are facing the same direction. Next, I removed the hook used for retaining bikes and discarded it. The chair is secured with the ratchet straps in the wheel hoops, and 1 hook over the armrest area of the chair. The hoops for the front wheels were folded back against the footrests and secured with a tiedown strap. This has turned out to be an easy to use great functioning system for our customer.













The Acura TL allows for a hitch receiver to be bolted to the underside of the trunk. The hitch requires two holes to be drilled through the bottom of the trunk in order for the hitch to be bolted to the vehicle. Installation is rather simple and can be done in about an hour. With this hitch you can tow a maximum of 2,000 lbs or in this case carry 2 bikes with a tongue weight capacity of 200lbs. On this application we attached a
